Very interesting read... just wondering what brands like Society did wrong? Was it lack of advertising or low distribution? And Wagh Bakri did right to sustain?
Society still ranks in the top 10 tea brands of the country. But unlike Wagh Bakri, it is more concentrated in Maharashtra and has not tried to expand as aggressively to other parts. Hence, its turnover is also around 1/3rd of Wagh Bakri. And finally, the brand doesn't invest much in ads as mentioned on their website as well.

Loved the story! Very interesting and so easy to read!
We drink Wagh Bakri tea here, in the Netherlands, would be nice to check out about their international presence also.
Glad that you liked it. You can check their international presence here : http://www.waghbakritea.com/global-reach.php
I always wondered how did the Girnar and Society tea brand fade away. As a kid, I distinctly my dad was a big fan of Girnar.
Yes. I saw this as well. Girnar had good market share in early 2000s. But now, it doesn't feature among major players.
Thanks Guru. Glad you liked it :)
