With regards to the above article , Can you also give the numbers of the global players - market share ? . This would help me get a much clearer picture of the Beard Grooming Industry.
Can you also share your thoughts on - Can Gillette have a long innings to play if it gets down to using some eco - friendly raw materials and ride on the slogan of "protecting nature".
In regards to the market share, figures are available at a country level generally. In US, Gillette has around 54% market share, Edgewell has around 15%, Dollar and Harry's together have 13% and BIC has around 8%. And remaining is divided between smaller players.
If Gillette promotes basis eco friendly raw material, there are some people who might consider using it. But we would need to see two things:
a) Will the eco friendly raw material be cheaper than the current one ? I guess it would not be because if it was they would already be using it. And adopting costlier raw materials will add to their costs and eat into their margins.
b) Second, if eco friendly is a strong value proposition for a large enough segment for people. I feel the number of such people would be too small for Gillette to start such products. Companies always ensure that the segment they are targeting is large enough before introducing a product. Here it doesn't seem like the case.
Hence, in my view eco friendly might not work. But launching simple razors which match Harry's and DSC at a cheaper cost should help.
